Tuck-pointing is a joint mortar repair, necessary when mortar weaken and starts to crumbling. Mortar joints needs to be inspected by a professional to determinate the structural condition of the wall. Repair consisting on the removing of a loose mortar about 3/4 inch, sweep and wet the joints and refill the joints with new mortar. Something to keep in mind is that the new mortar color will not match the existing color of the wall.
